Jack and Holly

 Jack loved Holly hopelessly, and she would never in her life choose him, a tragedy that only became apparent to him will well after the fact. In fact, upon his return to what we'll call the spirit world, he remembered, as he had so many times before in a very long existence, how stupid and pointless that kind of obsession was, and could only laugh as decades of bitter memories faded in the blinding light of a much bigger context.
